Issue #20          Fort Bragg, California          February/March, 2006

In the middle of February I took a three week vacation and visited the Dragoon Mountains northeast of Tombstone, Arizona.  The reason I mention it here is because before I left I looked on the Internet for possible RC flying fields between Fort Bragg and Tombstone!  So...,
In the course of my travels I visited five fields and flew at three of them.

First stop was a wonderful weekend at the Woodland/Davis Aeromodelers northwest of Sacramento.  Nice bunch of guys with a very nice blacktopped runway, sun shade, club house and a small lake for float flying.  They have it all!

My second stop was at the "Greenfield" flying field southeast of Bakersfield.  A dirt strip and lots of prairie dogs!

Third stop, Lake Isabella and the "Kern Model Aircraft Kontrollers".  A dirt strip, small sunshade and beautiful surroundings.  I met a couple of the club members.
The guy in the right photo is getting his "Lil Toni" ready to fly.

I stopped by the Sonoran Desert Flyers northwest of Tucson but the gate was locked.

I did manage to fly using a dirt road near the campsite northeast of Tombstone.
Until I hit a fence beside a cattle guard!

Okay.  Okay.  Back to the Fog Busters!

Dick Lucas has designed and built what he calls his "Baby Best Yet".  It flies great!

And, of course, Dick is working on his RotorPlane.  Here he is testing the lifting ability of the new wing.

Ron Cowan has his new Ultimate together and is waiting for some nice weather.
He plans to do his initial flight testing at the Corning field in the Central Valley.

Chris, Dick and Cory look over Chris's new Spitfire ARF.  There have been a few bugs but it is getting better.

Dick finished his Big RotorPlane and got it to fly and land, successfully!  Note the smile!

I have recently added another Bee to my fleet!  This one I call my electric GhostBee.
Keeping with the theme of clear monokote I made the wheels out of clear water bottle bottoms.

Not to talk about Dick Lucas too much but Dick donated his CAMS flying boat (left photo) to the
"Planes of Fame Air Museum" near Chino, California.  Obviously he misses it because he has
started another flying boat only this one will be about half as big.

The above photo is a sure sign the flying season is almost upon us.
Dick and Ron performed the annual maintenance on our club mower during the First Day of Spring!!
Rainy days cooped up repairing and building are almost over!

   Let's fly!

                            Your humble editor, Ron Bloomquist
