Issue #16 Fort Bragg, California October, 2005 Summer is slipping away
and a lot has been happening. Dick Lucas and Neil Van Der Wende
are FLYING again. And thanks to Steve Dunlap for donating the material and building new flight tables for our field. Now then..... The last weekend of September there was a quick round of Combat at our flying field
Turned out there were more spectators than pilots! Brian, Dick, Scott and my civilian friends, Ed and Suzanne lined up and watched the action. Dunlap, Weston and Cowan provided the entertainment!!
Jim Murphy and his brother from Arizona showed up and flew the first helicopter I have seen fly at our field. Impressive. And then......
The Corning Fun Fly happened over in the Central Valley. Neil and Dot, Ron2 and Pearline, Dick and Doris, Jack and Cathy, plus me made the five hour journey over the hill to attend. Most of us arrived on Wednesday and got in some quality flying before the official event happened Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some of us stayed on through Monday and even Tuesday enjoying the wonderful blacktopped flying field and lack of trees! We had sunny days with temperatures near one hundred and we had cool nights with the temp down into the forties! Some days wind, some days clouds.
Plus an over flight of white Pelicans with a 3D stunt plane doing loops below the birds! A guy by the name of Dallas showed up with two turbine powered jets.
He started up the F-15 but discovered a problem and didn't fly it. The other jet was brand new to him and he didn't fly it either. But, it was the first time I have seen turbine powered models up close. They are very intricate. He said the F-15 goes through a gallon of JP4 in five minutes! Both planes had air retracts and many other bells and whistles.
A flying club from the Davis area brought out their warbird collection and did some amazing flying and bombing runs. Very impressive.
There was a flock of foamies! 3D electric stunt planes are becoming more and more prolific.
Dave Sullivan and the JR crew did impressive routines with their huge 3D gassers Between times, when the smoke and noise cleared, us Fort Bragg Fog Busters would send up something.
On the left Neil and Ron2 marvel at Dick Luca's flying ability On the right, Dick smiling after a successful flight with his Cub.
And then there are some Fog Buster members that just like to sit around!
And there is one member that is running out of sleeping space in his VW camper!!
But Corning is such a treat. Beautiful evenings with Shasta off in the distance. Jim Hand and crew host a great Fun Fly. We all had a wonderful time and many successful flights. Corning will be on our calendar next year. Meanwhile, back at our wee field of screams.
New pilot Corey with Weston and Dunlap helping get his SPAD together.
And new member Dennis giving me what I think might be the victory signal as Ron2 sorts out his transmitter. Most weekend mornings we are out there flying. Come on out! Attention! Club meeting, at the field, next Sunday 10AM, October 16th See you around, |
