November 15 - 21 We put up temporary scaffolding around the lantern for access to the higher areas and roof panels of the Lantern and, while waiting for the paint removal company to arrive, removed the ventilator ball from the top of the roof and lower it to the floor.
November 16th The paint stripping crew starts removing the lead based paint from the interior and exterior of the lantern. Here they are working on the smoke hood, "spider", and "spider ring". Once those parts are stripped I remove them so they can get to the ceiling above. They are finished stripping the paint in 3 days. November 20th, we resume dismantling the Lantern by taking down the Rosette and then the steel strips that hold the interior wall panels to the Architrave and Parapets. |
